Queens Residents Unaware of No. 7 Train Weekend Cuts

NY Daily News

Faced with at least seven weekends without the 7 train, angry straphangers are urging the MTA to either back off or give them better alternatives to cross the East River.

The 7 will be shut down for construction between Vernon Blvd. and Queensboro Plaza starting Friday, for seven to ten weekends, transit officials said. This means it will not travel between Queens and Manhattan.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is offering a shuttle bus between Vernon Blvd. and Queensboro Plaza so riders can catch the N or W into Manhattan. The Q will be extended to Astoria.

“The shuttle is there to take you to the rail connections. It’s not like people are stranded,” said NYC Transit spokesman Paul Fleuranges. “We understand that it is inconvenient, but if we don’t work on the railroad, the railroad doesn’t work.”

  1. What’s extra annoying is that the MTA just rebooted their website and it’s no better than it was. I can find no info on the 7 disruption. Nothing under the Planned Service Changes tab. And when I plug an upcoming weekend date into the Plan & Ride feature, it shows full service for all stops in LIC on the 7.

  2. I noticed that also Josh. Great to have a nice new site that doesn’t even have info on a huge service interuption.
