Sonali Cuisine gets Good Review

Oct. 24 009

Ask Sunnyside residents and they will give you mixed reviews on the newly-opened Sonali Cuisine, a Bangladeshi restaurant located at 44-13 Queens Blvd. Reviews have included:

“Prices are cheap because the food is bad. Service is OK but I don’t think they have eaten their own food or they would have improved on it. We had haleem – it had big, fatty chunks of meat thrown in with a thin watery gravy. It tasted like left over curry.” (comment: http://sunnysidepost.com/2009/10/indian-restaurant-opens-in-sunnyside/)

Others have claimed that it is value for money. And there will always be a few people in the tiny restaurant.

No matter what residents may or may not think, Counter Culture, which is part of the Village Voice, gave it the thumbs up this week.

“The food is rich, savory, and really cheap, and offers several dishes that distinguish it from other Bangladeshi restaurants in Queens. In addition, it offers a selection of freshwater fish imported from Bangladesh. The dining room rivals an operating amphitheater in brightness, but who cares when the food is this good.”
